Coinbase has launched perpetual futures based on AI companies OpenAI and Anthropic. This move comes weeks after the successful introduction of SpaceX’s pre-IPO futures on the exchange.
Coinbase Debuts OpenAI, Anthropic Pre-IPO Futures
Coinbase announced: “We will add support for Anthropic and OpenAI pre-IPO perpetual futures on Coinbase. The opening of our ANTHROPIC-PERP and OPENAI-PERP pre-IPO market will begin on or after 11:00am UTC on 22 June 2026.”

Shortly after, the exchange confirmed that trading had officially begun. In a follow-up post, the company wrote, “Our ANTHROPIC-PERP and OPENAI-PERP pre-IPO markets are now in full-trading mode on Coinbase. Limit, market, stop, and stop limit orders are all now available.”
With this, traders will be able to trade on the potential valuations of OpenAI and Anthropic before either company becomes public before the launch. Earlier, on June 4, Coinbase had rolled out SpaceX pre-IPO perpetual futures.
The Anthropic and OpenAI IPO frenzy has hyped up ever since SpaceX debuted trading on the U.S. stock maket. While the companies have yet to announce a clear timeline, experts expect an IPO by the end of this year.
Earlier, in June, Anthropic confidentially filed for an IPO. Thereafter, OpenAI followed with its IPO filing.
Growing Competition With Binance
Moreover, pre-IPO perpetual futures have gotten more competitive as of late. Binance got the first mover’s advantage as it had revealed its SPCX pre-IPO offering days ahead of Coinbase.
Meanwhile, Coinbase has already indicated that more products could be on the way. At its June 16 ‘System Update’ event, the exchange announced plans to continue to further develop its services in the pre-IPO perpetual futures segment.
However, Binance also took the lead in launching OpenAI pre-IPO perpetual futures before Coinbase. Moreover, earlier this month, Binance had also revealed a similar contract that is associated with Anthropic.
