Affiliate Verification Badges Disappear Across Shiba Inu (SHIB) Ec…

K9 Finance DAO has clarified why affiliate verification badges disappeared from several Shiba Inu (SHIB) ecosystem accounts on X, stating the change was tied to a subscription decision linked to the @shibtoken account and not to any breakdown in partnerships.

The explanation followed confusion after multiple SHIB-linked accounts lost their affiliate badges, including K9 Finance, Bad Idea AI, Shibarium, Shib: The Metaverse, and lead developer Kaal Dhairya. The timing fueled speculation due to recent tensions involving Shibarium.

Community members first flagged the issue after affiliate badges vanished from several widely followed Shiba Inu ecosystem profiles. The badges had previously linked these accounts to @shibtoken through X’s affiliate verification system.

Because users have long treated @shibtoken as the ecosystem’s primary X handle, many interpreted the removals as a signal of shifting relationships.

In a statement on X, K9 Finance said the @shibtoken Business Subscription, a paid verification product, controlled the affiliate badges. Under the subscription, X automatically extended affiliate verification to connected ecosystem projects and team members.

K9 said it discontinued the subscription after reviewing recurring costs and operational priorities. As a result, X removed affiliate verification from all linked accounts at the same time.

The project said it discussed the issue directly with Shiba Inu leadership and the @shibtoken account, which confirmed the decision and applied it across the ecosystem.

K9 emphasized that the badge removals do not reflect changes in partnerships or long-term commitments. The project said it did not single out any individual account or ecosystem partner.

The Shiba Inu ecosystem does not maintain a formally designated official X account, a structure that has previously led users to treat @shibtoken activity as informal endorsement.

K9 Finance Previously Raised Concerns Over Shiba Inu’s Bridge Exploit

K9 issued the clarification days after it said it may reconsider its relationship with Shibarium if users affected by the September 12 Shibarium Bridge exploit do not receive full compensation.

Holders of K9’s KNINE token were among those impacted by the incident. K9 later said it offered the attackers a 20 ETH bounty to recover funds, but the attackers rejected the proposal. The project also said communication from the Shiba Inu side regarding recovery efforts had stopped.

K9 said it plans to hold a community vote on its future relationship with Shibarium if compensation remains unresolved by January 6, 2026.. The team stressed that the verification badge removal occurred independently of that dispute.

Following community feedback, the @shibtoken account confirmed that its gold verification checkmark had been restored without affiliate links. The account reiterated that its focus remains on SHIB and the ShibArmy.

K9 Finance has since secured a standalone verification badge. As of publication, several other affected ecosystem projects have not yet obtained independent verification, and no timeline has been provided for the return of affiliate badges.
