The move to add native stablecoin support to Samsung Wallet by Samsung Electronics could place U.S. dollar-pegged digital currencies before millions of Galaxy device owners, establishing one of the largest consumer distribution channels for cryptocurrencies yet.
The advantages of this goes beyond Samsung’s own ecosystem. Stablecoins have mostly remained within cryptocurrencies and exchanges that ordinary users rarely use them. However, when they are linked into an application that already exists on Galaxy phones, it will make using blockchain payment easy without forcing users to install another crypto application.
Samsung revealed the initiative during its Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event on July 22, in which Samsung Wallet had been described as the financial hub that connects payments, identity, digital assets, and Galaxy services. The South Korean publication, Digital Asset, was the first to report about the stablecoin plans of Samsung, while Reuters confirmed this news separately, also focusing on Samsung’s move to enter other financial services with the launch of its financial instrument called Galaxy Card.
Samsung Wallet could bring stablecoins to Galaxy users
As per Digital Asset, Samsung has stated that its Wallet service will evolve from being only a payments and savings app into a platform that incorporates many new features in terms of digital assets like stablecoins. The goal of this strategy is to ensure that users of Samsung Wallet will be able to transfer various digital assets easily and reliably while consolidating payments, rewards, and digital assets into one integrated service.
The statement is also in line with Samsung’s larger vision for Galaxy devices. Prior to Unpacked, Samsung said that its upcoming generation of devices would provide enhanced personalized experiences powered by AI technology, with Samsung Wallet playing a more prominent role in daily digital life.
Samsung, however, stopped short of revealing which stablecoins it will support, naming an issuer, or providing a launch date. It also did not explain how the feature would be rolled out across the different markets where Samsung Wallet operates.
Galaxy Card pushes Samsung deeper into consumer finance
Samsung also launched the Samsung Galaxy Card, which is a financial product that can be accessed through Samsung Wallet. As reported by Reuters, the card will be rolled out in the US with Barclays issuing the card and Visa acting as the payment network, showing Samsung’s interest to grow its footprint in the financial sector.
Samsung said the Wallet’s financial features will be protected by Samsung Knox, its security platform, using end-to-end encryption.
With the integration of Samsung Pay with Samsung Pass back in 2022, the Wallet has been evolving ever since. This advanced Wallet technology today can store various payment cards, digital IDs, boarding passes, keys for homes and cars, and even display users’ cryptocurrency assets. The transition for Wallet to accepting usable stablecoins will push it towards being a fully digital finance tool.
Stablecoins get a mainstream smartphone gateway
Samsung’s announcement comes as stablecoins make headway in the mainstream payment stream. According to the Fireblocks State of Stablecoins 2025 survey carried out on around 300 banks and payment services, almost half of the respondents think that the ability to make payments in real time is the most significant advantage of stablecoins, and 85% of respondents think that better regulation is no longer a hindrance but an incentive for adoption.
At the same time, payment systems have continued to evolve. Both Visa and blockchain data company Allium are behind a website displaying fiat-backed stablecoins like USDC and USDT being used on the largest blockchain networks, reflecting the increasingly widespread adoption of stablecoins beyond the realm of cryptocurrency trading.
What has been missing from the marketplace is a consumer gateway comparable to the scale of a global smartphone manufacturer.
“By bringing together Samsung’s innovation, Barclays’ co-brand capabilities, and Visa’s trusted network, Samsung Galaxy Card delivers a connected experience that helps consumers earn rewards while providing the security and acceptance needed to support commerce wherever they choose to shop,” explains Kirk Stuart, Visa’s SVP and Head of North American Enablers, Merchants, and Fintechs.
Should Samsung actually introduce stablecoin support, its Galaxy smartphones could rank among the most important mainstream gateways to digital currency, putting pressure on rival manufacturers and wallet companies to unroll their crypto payment plans sooner than expected.
