The company’s most recent quarter gave investors plenty to feel good about. AMD reported Q1 revenue of $10.3 billion, up 37.8% from a year ago, and earnings per share of $1.37, which came in $0.08 above the consensus estimate of $1.29. Revenue also cleared expectations, topping the $9.9 billion forecast.

A big part of that beat came from AI infrastructure demand — and that trend may be picking up speed.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently stated that “Agentic AI has arrived,” meaning AI systems that can act independently are no longer a future concept. They are here. That matters a lot for AMD because agentic AI workloads are well-suited to run on CPUs, which is exactly where AMD competes with its EPYC processor line.

What the Agentic AI Shift Means for AMD’s CPUs

Nvidia believes the CPU market opened up by agentic AI could reach $200 billion in total addressable market. That number is more than double the combined annual revenue of AMD and Intel last year.

AMD has been steadily gaining on Intel in the CPU space. In Q1, AMD held a 33.2% share of the desktop CPU market, up 5 percentage points year over year. Its revenue share stood even higher at 37.6%, which points to stronger pricing power relative to Intel.

Nvidia is not sitting still — it launched its Vera CPU to go after the same opportunity. AMD will face competition on multiple fronts, but the market is large enough that several players can do well at the same time.

AMD is also planning to invest more than $10 billion in Taiwan’s AI market to expand chip production and deepen ties with packaging and testing partners.
